Ah well the modding kit + an AGS-001 will probably run you more than the AGS-101 would. IIRC you just need a 101 screen, and maybe a voltage regulator to use the 101 screen on a 001 board. The kits are primarily to turn AGB-001s into 101s. I'm assuming you are referring to the kits that come with ribbon cable adapters. This is a really useful comparison, thanks. Interesting that the 101 and DS Lite have a purple tinge to the side walls where the others are browner - I'm guessing that the latter is the most "accurate" as it's closer to the original 001 screen and presumably the IPS is the most accurate relative to the actual RGB values. Without question the IPS screen is a huge upgrade compared to the AGS-101. Before I had the IPS and the 101 I played a lot of GBA games on the DS Lite and I was actually quite surprised to find that it seemed to be the worst out of the three. I prefer 101 just as much as ips. You'll know when you try other games then pokemon.

Gameboy Adv SP AGS-001 model. Came earlier than expected, housing is REshelled but no scratches, perfect condition. Will probably switch screen display to AGS-101 (brighter display) overall great purchase.
Mostly used if you find one cheap with a broken top screen. I prefer my AGS-101 for most of my GBA gaming. But if money is an issue, a DS lite is fantastic. You'll still want original GBA hardware around if you plan to do any linking (eg. for trading pokemon, or multiplayer). I have both. .
